She's got my blouse on! The one I've been searching for forever. That was my first thought on seeing pics of
48-year old Elle Macpherson on vacation in
Ibiza, in the constant company of the paparazzi. Is it a peasant blouse or a beach cover-up? I'm calling it The Elle, for all it's blue and purple fabulousness with pompoms on top.
Because when you get this top....
....you get this bod. It's true. That's why I've been searching for it for so long.
Begone what my youngest Cy, 8, calls my scary-bone neck! Welcome: eternal goldy tan, non-bobbly thighs and nice knees! With The Elle blouse I could be picking up Cy from carpentry camp but look like I've just been hit the sandy shores after yakking all night with celeb peeps who are famous, but in a disarmingly bohemian and eco way. Where did you find it Elle? (
Anyone who knows her, tell her to get on the blower to me). Could have easily have been a 5 euro find at the beach markets...or 500 euros at
Harvey Nicks.
For the past five years I've had my one cover-up
stand-by but it's not The Elle...

Wonder why I'm standing in the vege patch...Elle wouldn't do that... |
Last week in France, land of charming blouses, I thought I hit le motherlode with these two tops...I would like to say I bought them from a little known artisan selling her wares in a cobbled alley but actually they came from the 50% off sales at Galleries
Lafayette, a big department store.

Blouse: Gerard Darel. Nothing in the glass, saving calories like Elle |
The irony of all this: I have been wearing my new wanna-be Elle blouses with my beloved old rattered Joie shorts and Kasil jeans, neither of which I can bear to throw away. Both have at least five holes in each. (In France my mother said to my husband: "
Have you noticed whatever Jody wears you can see either her bum or her underwear?)
What would
Elle say?
Elle would say "those pants HAVE to go!" :) She'll take you shopping for new ones, if you want.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
How fabulous does Elle look!! I love your tops though, and holes and all you still look amazing:) Have a fab weekend!

I'd say "who cares what Elle says" - I'd pay good money for those jeans! I always seem to pay good money for knackered stuff! Can't help myself. And I love the Paul & Joe top. That's the kind of top I'm always looking for. No effort but effortless.
ReplyDeleteI've always liked her style... Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI don't think Elle would HAVE to say anything, LOL!! I find it very ironic that you posted Elle in a purple top as for the past two days I have had purple on the brain and just can't find the "right" purple top to save my life!!
ReplyDeleteI think you look just lovely with your new tops!
Love Di ♥
Honestly, to this somewhat plump gal, you look just as good as she does (if not just a wee bit shorter) and if I had your legs, I would be showing them as much as possible :)
ReplyDeleteI like yours better.
ReplyDeleteLove both your new blouses. And now I'm not eating. Seeing Elle in a swimsuit just threw me over the edge. I'm a fat slob. Though, while in Houston this week, I passed on Neiman Marcus and Saks and stopped instead at Lulumon. So now I have lots of new workout gear to inspire more early morning runs! Or something.
ReplyDeleteGosh she looks just like I did in my bikini on my hols last week..............we could be bookends..........no really.....separated at birth.........oh alright...she looks like the woman on the beach that I sit VERY VERY far away from...........

ReplyDeleteBoth blouses are great. And I say who cares what Elle says!
ReplyDeleteElle is disgustingly beautiful and does not look surgically altered! You must have at least close to her bod after that bike excursion! Loving the tunics too. When I go swimsuit shopping I usually come home with a tunic instead and ...that's it!
ReplyDeleteAs always you look gorgeous! Isn't it fun to shop in France?? You were there during the SOLDES!
xo

That purple top looks fabulous. I'm sure it would be just the thing for you. Nice dark, passionate purple.
ReplyDeleteAre you sure she didn't steal that from your closet? Maybe the police could help you check.
Your new tops are fantastic.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit that I too have pants with holes, that I love to much to throw away. I figure as long at my tops are nice, no one will notice, right?

You had me at pom-poms. And holey pants. I went to one of my prenatal appointments wearing some really awful jean shorts (they're comfy!). The rest of me was very presentable but the nurse took one look at my bottoms and it changed the tone of the whole conversation. She seemed very concerned about my home situation. :) Guess I should dig harder through my closet to find something less alarming to wear in the future.

Elle would say "I sweat for hours every day to look is good and then a relative of mine goes and gives an interview to a magazine saying how unhappy I am because my looks are starting to fade and I have to work harder and harder all the time just to maintain this figure" (true). You look great as you are and her top is probably by Melissa Odabash and cost about $1trillion!
ReplyDeleteHa! The holey clothes have authenticity. This is something that can't be bought. It's the elusive ingredient that designers have been working on for years.
ReplyDeleteLove your new blouses, but love that Elle blouse, too.
ReplyDeleteYou seriously crack me up everytime....
ReplyDeleteI want one now...especially for post pregnancy if it means my body will miraculously recover as if it were Elle's- If you find out the deets from Elle..please share its the perfect bohemian beach coverup.
All for now.

Wow, she looks fabulous and so do you Jody :) and I think she'd love your VINTAGE shorts. Don't forget that Elle gets a little air brushing in those shorts, not to mention the personal chef, personal trainer, etc.. Plus it's likely she works at it too :)
ReplyDeleteHave a good weekend!
Leslie
.. that should read shots not shorts (geezzz.. need more coffee)
DeleteSo funny i am still trying to find out where she got the top I think it may be Melissa odbash in fact I did a post about her clothes back in may. The top may cost a fortune but I reckon I have a better chance of getting the top than the body.
ReplyDeleteThink you're right about the source- it looks similar to these..http://www.odabash.com/shop-online/categories/beachwear-2012
DeleteHAHAHA! If it's any comfort - I bump into her regularly in Notting Hill, i.e. I've seen her knees live. You wouldn't want her real-life unairbrushed knees. Yours are by a million times prettier. Needless to say that I'd be happy to take all the rest of her body :-)
ReplyDeleteNow that's the real life news I like to hear!
DeleteIt is almost criminal that Elle looks so amazing!! I just hope she is a slave to pilates or is on some crazy torture diet but she may just have great genes. I adore her purple top with the pompoms!
ReplyDeleteI don't know what you're going on about, Jody because you look darn good. I'm 11 years younger but you're way fitter and slimmer. As for your tops, I think they're so pretty. Can't go wrong with Paul & Joe or Gerard Darel. They make fabulous clothes.
ReplyDeleteI've got an old (1960s) Scottish Rugby Jersey, still encrusted with mud from Murrayfield if you think it would help co-ordinate your look.
ReplyDeleteCorker!
DeleteBonjour, Kia Ora!
ReplyDeleteHello you!!! I'm so sorry, I haven't yet had a chance to reply to your e-mail. I would definitely love to catch a coffee with you though when I'm in San Fran.
I've just returned to blogging. Missed sharing my photos!!
Smiles from nz.
Dakota :)
You look great Jody, but if you find that blouse and it does give the wearer an Elle body please let me know!
ReplyDelete48? Didn't even have that body when I was 18! Now, where did I put my muumuu?...
ReplyDeleteOh darn, and I thought the holy grail for clothing was a slim pair of white trousers that were not obscenely see through. I don't think the blouse will help me, I will never be tall and blonde.
ReplyDeleteNo need for that top, you look pretty goldy tanned and toned to me.
Next: the slim white trou that are not obscenely see-through. Have not found those yet!
DeleteYou might have missed it while you were peddling your arse off in the Pyrenees but you can skip this one ... still searching too.
DeleteOops, I meant pedalling ...
DeleteI'll have one too... of both - the blouse and a body like Elle's - surely, not too much to ask!?
ReplyDeletelovely to meet you too, and yes, that's me in the pleated skirt - my go-to, travel summer outfit!
I like them both...Elle's body and the cover up, haha! But, you my dear look just as marvelous as you are..stunner you :)) I hope you are doing well & have had a super weekend!! Here's hoping the new week will be grand!! xx
ReplyDeleteElle's blouse is really pretty but I love the two you bought, I especially like the white one!
ReplyDeleteWelcome back Jody. I've been wearing my white blouse with white shorts a lot this summer. So naturally , I love your white one. Elle's blouse is cute too. Kind of tribal looking...

Welcome back! Great post. I love your tunics -- even better than ELLE's! xo style, she wrote
ReplyDeleteI thought it was you!!
ReplyDeletePlease, you totally have the Elle body - and style! - Jody. You always look amazing! Regardless, your mother is hilarious...I love how blunt that statement was! :P
ReplyDeleteP.S. I have never thought of being a hand model before, but I'm totally going to look into it now - especially since I have college and Grad school debt right now. :/
You look fab in those tops. Every time I try one on I look about six months pregnant, which isn't quite the look I need at my age!
ReplyDeletepeople pay good money for "lived-in" jeans! and i think your versions of her kaftan are pretty great! of course now i will be searching for elle's for you. i'll let you know if i find it!
ReplyDeleteNow that you mention it, there is a dazzling resemblance between you two. I think you just need to sew some pompoms on one of your tops and it's a done deal!!
ReplyDeleteCarol _ I wish!!!! Someone just pointed out our ONLY similarity - we both have sons called Cy(!)
DeleteI think it's amazing you did this at all. I could barely cycle up a slight slope! Your dad puts me to shame..... Best get my butt off the chair and do some exercise.
