My older brother Tony (he's 52) just send me this photo with a cheery "Off We Go!"
( I've just realised I've never posted a photo of my brother Tony even though he lives just across the bridge in San Francisco. Well that'll learn him not to give me Superman comics for my birthday. Like he did when we were eight years old. As you can see I don't hold grudges.)
I emailed him: "What are you and that guy doing in those tight black pants?"
Tony's answer: "Representing New Zealand in the America's Cup in Lake Placid. Bob Sledding."
In my nearly 51 years knowing him, I had not realised my brother learned to bobsled. (He hadn't.)
Whaa? So there was a spare seat on the bobsled and you just hopped in?
Actually kind of like that - there was a spare seat and a friend of a friend called and Tony was on the next plane to Lake Placid.
I thought Tony was scheduled for a knee operation this week. Obviously he went bobsledding instead. Mad bugger.

LOL some Cool Runnings joke in there but may as well have fun and enjoy yourself, pfft to knee repair.
ReplyDeletePat funnily enough some friends and I went as the Jamaican Bobsled team a couple of years ago - we made the bobsled from cardboard and plywood.
DeleteHe's insane! God love him!
ReplyDeleteWell it all looks very professional so we can only hope it turns out well for him. Fingers crossed, he's lovely looking your brother!
I'll let him know Dani - he'll be chuffed!
DeleteTotally thought of Cool Runnings!
ReplyDeleteLove that he jumped into the spare seat. Love that you used the word Bugger!
Bugger is the Kiwi favourite word. The classic is a Toyota commercial where even the farm dog says bugger. Suits a lot of occasions.

"That'll learn him" ?? Are you sure you're not living in Norfolk, England?? Perfect use of "bugger" too! Good luck to your brother, he sounds a little bit crazy! x
ReplyDeleteThis story is one of many!
Delete'That'll learn him'?? You'd fit in perfectly in Dublin's inner city!! And bugger? Hell, we use that all the time over here. Great story:)
ReplyDeleteHaha!! Funny, I was thinking the same as Helen about your language today - very Irish! And check out your brother...52 you say? Yikes..you guys have some super genes going on there. Jealous...a lot! Avril xx
ReplyDeleteGo your bro! Best of luck to him and he can get the knee job at the end of it (probably best to do things that way too...).
ReplyDeleteHe'll for sure get his money's worth out of the operation this way!
DeleteHe's a good looking bloke for 52, with or without a dodgy knee.
ReplyDeleteDue for a hip replacement this year too!
DeleteLOLOLOL!!! Men and their toys. My brother will be 34 and he still reads manga. Not his kids. HIM! BTW, I was shocked when I read 52. Thought my eyes were misleading me or something. Your brother looks so young!
ReplyDeleteYes, he's mad! You and he make 50 look youthful!
ReplyDeleteUnbelievable! Love the adventurous spirit of your family!

Awesome!!! I have always wanted to do this. Passed up the opportunity in Park City several years back. I miss my visits here but I'm baaaaaack. Thanks for the fun, as always!!! P.S. He doesn't look 52. You have good genes in your family!
ReplyDeleteHI Gina - fantastic you're back. Yes I passed up the opportunity (not to represent NZ) in lake Placid when Kevin and I were first "going out" 17 years ago. Lake Placid was a bit of a bizarre place back then, completely empty of tourists, the place that time had forgotten. And bizarrely even though we asked everyone for the ski field noone could quite point us in the direction.
DeleteEasy on the lorra lorra there Cilla! your brother sounds a top man.
ReplyDeleteOK chook.
DeleteSo everyone in your family is amazing and fabulous. So jealous!!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous.........is he married????I have the perfect AUSTRALIAN WOMAN for him if he isNOT!DO tell.............immediately!

ReplyDeleteThis is something my husband would do! Hope he doesn't further injure his knee or hip!
ReplyDeleteTony sounds like he has his priorities straight! Why fix your knee when you can fly like a rocket..Again I think you must have the most marvelous family with all they are doing! He's very cute and doesn't look 52 at all!
