CSL Heart of the Home Tour 2013

I usually don't push events on my blog, but this is a shameless plug for the CSL Heart of the Home Tour next Friday 26 and Saturday 27th April. Let's face it: this is a unique opportunity to have a good old nosey around five fabulous homes in Piedmont and Oakland knowing that you are helping others.

The money raised from the home tour will go to help local at-risk children. Since 1986 CSL has given nearly $2.9 million in grants, including $205,000 last year. Our home was on the tour last year (here, here and here) and it was a wonderful experience - and unusual...with 1,500 people walking through our house in those two days!

If you are living in the Bay Area, I would love to go out and buy a ticket. You'll get the chance to see a Mid-Century Modern that has become Piedmont's first LEED certifiable sustainable home, a re-modeled Newsom and Newsom Traditional, a Georgian Revival and a 1915 Julia Morgan traditional with a modern addition. In addition, seven local designers will work their magic on rooms ranging from a 13-year old girl's bedroom to a man cave. Tickets can be purchased online or at stores around the East Bay including the Terrace Coffee Shop.

I'll be hitting the tour next Sat morn with a latte and my Mumstar Mob. What fascinates me are the bedrooms and particularly the bedside tables which I always think truly reflect who's living there. What room in your house or piece of furniture reveals who you really are?

  1. I LOVE looking in people's homes and I remember your posts last year about your tours (and it's always lovely seeing pics of your home anyway). If I were there I would buy tickets (that sink! that staircase!).

Second best is looking in people's gardens. There's a local scheme here (I think there must be local schemes all over the place) that does something similar. I go armed with camera and notepad--you can do that with gardens (they probably expect it) but might be a bit weird in homes...

    1. Truthfully, I have gotten much more pleasure out of the garden than the interior - its always changing and interesting and except for the gophers just keeps on giving

  2. I'd be joining you if only I lived there! You're so right about bedside tables because mine holds my life's essentials! Currently, it has books, pens, notepads, ipad, kindle, lotions & potions, my specs, dog treats, jewellery, phone, magazines, pills and usually a glass of something alcoholic.

  3. My formerly fabulous Donghia sofa now faded by the sun and destroyed by children and pets. Does that reveal who I really am or what?

  4. Amazing house! My bedside is stacked with books right now.

I think my upstairs bathroom and my dining room most reflect me, though never at the same time! :-)

  6. You have the coolest house ever! Seriously.

I love looking at people's homes and gardens (you know me, I'm fascinated by houses, architectural and decor details, film tours, how people live....even some random person's LV bag at an office!)...

I love our living room ("lounge") the best, it is styled ala Mad Men early 60s style. Whenever we have company over, everyone shoves themselves in the living room as it has a somewhat retro vibe about it yet feels comfortable. I love our master bedroom too, it feels serene and uncluttered.

I have books on my nightstand and the bottom drawer contains crap that I have to quickly hide (i.e. mail, bills, magazines) when company comes over.

  7. The second photo, of what I assume is a dining room, looks like some dated 1970s boardroom...that amount of wood would drive me bonkers!

  8. 1,500 people... I don't think ever ever had 150 in my house... Those pictures are amazing.

  9. Oh I get such fun from looking around other people's homes. I have a lot of colour in my home which is not really the norm in Ireland so this is probably the most revealing thing in my home.

  10. Damn, 1500 people at your sea
    That would drive me crazy
    All those dirt and germs
As they crawl around like worms
    No thanks for me
But then it is a good cause I see haha

  11. I love Homes Tours. When I lived in Seattle, I was usually one of the "room guards", (although they always came up with a much more gentil name, like "hostess)", and got to spend the whole day in fabulousness. I would love to be in Oakland next weekend for the CSL home tour.

  12. Sounds like a great way to raise money. My home always perplexes me...it really isn't how I want it to be yet it is me that has made it the way it is......so I must be making lots of mistakes.....sigh

  14. What a fantastic cause you are supporting. My husband and I work with at-risk/high-risk youth in the North State so I applaude you. Your house is fab and I enjoyed the peek around on your link to your previous post. What fun to hear the back story on your photo shoot AND thanks for the photo tips! Brilliant!
    Happy weekend!

  18. Great event and wonderful cause. I remember when you opened your house for that. How generous, 1,500 trooping through your home, I can't even imagine.

Our entire house reflects who we are, it's completely decorated as a sports bar and it was my idea. ;)

  19. This sounds very interesting, especially that it's for a great cause. as for your question, I always say that the kitchen and the bathroom are the mirror of a house and of its owners.
