During our five-day Staycation there's been eating and drinking galore, culminating in the most beautiful Easter Sunday party. It was at our friends
William and Ron's Victorian home in Oakland, an oasis of civility and generosity where the champers flows, the cutlery twinkles and the napkins are embroidered.
(How embarrassing, they get tired teriyaki chicken and a bit of torn-off paper towel when they come to my house...)

But there was no escaping reality and it was back to "enjoying" the kids. Fair dues we had a very nice time at Alameda's
Speisekammer where we ate wild boar, wiener schnitzel and spatzle which is basically fried dough with butter. Mmmm...

Next morning Cy, nine, very sweetly offered to make me breakfast... and then presented me with the bill, "not enclouding tip."

When I asked for one more cuppa, mein host Cy "From Oakland" grumbled: "I won't be coming up these steps too many more times."
By golly, that boy must gone to the Dudemeister School of Service.

ReplyDeleteYes, yes, it's sunny and warm in California while it's sunny and around freezing in the land of the Bear. Insignificant difference, right?
We had our grandchildren with us for four days over Easter — today was our essentially uneventful staycation.

DeleteThose desserts look delicious. What a nice looking party. Add the wild boar, wiener schnitzel and spatzle, and it sounds like a great food weekend. And then the breakfast, of course. Why is the Earl Grey Tea twice the price of the sandwich? Maybe it was the extra effort of adding the milk?

Cy's bill is adorable. If I were you I would have paid it and then the next morning (after serving him breakfast) present him with a bill.... but what do I know, my kid is only 4 1/2 months old!
