While we're away in the Grand Canyon sucking at snake bites (hopefully kidding) I though I'd post a few new-ish photos of our house, most of which I've neglected to use. Some of you asked if you could use photos of our house on your blog. Of course - flattered! Not sure why I haven't posted these before - blogging treads a fine line between showing and showing off and I worry that sometimes I venture into the latter... Anyway take a peek if you're so inclined...
For other photos of our house see Topics: Our House.
I'm just writing a piece for a local magazine; five things I love about our house and five things I would have done differently.
How would you answer that about your house or flat?
See you next Sunday!
There is sure some decor there I haven't seen before at any lair. Like that swervy chair, sure have a very nice lair. Thanks for the share, as you're not even there.
ReplyDeleteLove that green chair Jody...adds a lovely pop of colour in the room. I am totally depressed now after taking a peek!

You live in a tree house! Yippee - love it - what a fabulous point of view you have in your decorating - so lovely and so you and what more could one want from a house!
ReplyDelete5 things I love:
The trees, my bathrooms, my garden, the little sitting room and that it is always so quiet here
5 things to change:
Add a snoratorium, bigger kitchen, room for a king sized bed, a sun room and a stone wall!
Have a great trip!
I always love seeing shots of your house Jody. To me, it's just such a happy looking place and comfortable and easy. Can't wait to see your article. It's always so interesting to see what people love most and would do differently if they could. My goal now, is just to make the place comfortable until I move :)

I think your home is simply stunning.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful. I especially love that bed and the flow of the rooms. I love my south facing garden, conservatory, number of rooms to just loiter in,the bathrooms and the quietness. I don't dislike anything. Yet. I've only been here a few months.
ReplyDeleteDon't ever think you're showing off, Jody. You have a beautiful house but such a warm, self-deprecating personality, no-one could accuse you of bragging. I, for one, love seeing photos of your home: much cheaper than buying Homes and Gardens magazine!
ReplyDeleteMy own home? I love the space downstairs, the kitchen and the shed. I wish....I could move it to California.
How lovely! Can I come live on your patio? :D
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous Jody, I especially love the flooring and your tap! If we did our house again (God forbid) I'd try to look ahead - we didn't anticipate 3 children. And I'd have lots more storage and cheaper heating! Sadly I love my laundry room and huge airing cupboard most of all!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful home! Thank you for letting us in for a peep! x
ReplyDeleteyour house is absolutely gorgeous. thanks for the tour!
ReplyDeletewow, what a great place. the fire screen and fire tools look really ace, and that bed is amazing! our biggest mistake was to start with the decorating and finish with the insulating (cue need to redecorate). the thing i got right? quiet street. max x
ReplyDeleteYour house is fabulous and I LOVE that lime green colour so cleverly echoed everywhere. Couldn't look more different from Crap Cottage which is constantly crumbling about our ears!
ReplyDeleteJody- Show off, show off, show off! Please!
ReplyDeleteSo fabulous, and what a talented photographer who took those photos!
I can't wait to read the article.
Loretta
That wall of accordion fold glass doors is so great! And those touches of green - too cool.
ReplyDeleteSince I rent, I don't ever have to think about any maintenance, which is the main thing I like about my house.
Please-- continue to show it off! Lukus and I both were just looking longingly at it! Of course we have to settle for a Singapore sized condo ---- translation: ridiculously small! Oh well!
ReplyDeleteWOW!
ReplyDeleteI just love your house. And it makes me miss the Bay. I know you've mentioned before that you hate clutter, I'd love to hear more about how you keep it at bay.
ReplyDeleteWhat I love about my flat - great layout, huge windows, the balcony, the washroom tiles, it's on the top floor, the attic and a basement storage spaces so our sports gear doesn't have to live with us.
What I dislike - the overzealous Swiss builders who made it virtually airtight and therefore we're always battling mould, the kitchen is just a bit too small, and our next door neighbours who smoke.
Abbby - shove in in the mudroom - which is an apocolyptic (sp?)mess. (yes important that the sports gear doesn't become an extra flatmate!)
DeleteGorgeous home x
ReplyDeleteThat's just gorgeous! I don't know where to start, I love every bit of it (except all the stairs lol!) So many questions though... Where is all the stuff?! lol (papers, school stuff, mail,...), how do you get the groceries up all those stairs? I adore those sliding doors that open up wide, but do you get lots of critters and bugs in your house? How do you keep your white couches clean? Where did you get that funky chair with the ottoman in the second picture? How do you keep the cushions dry on your outdoor furniture? My house is hopeless lol! Hope you are having a great trip :)
ReplyDeleteCate, no bugs here in Norcal (Northern california). I know! No flies either. Everything goes in the orange mudroom crudroom which has just piles of effluvia of rotten sandwiches and old ceramic projects. The door is also closed to the mudroom
DeleteI have always loved your home! Hope you are having a great trip and there's no snake bites to date! :) With our home, I love the recent modern changes we have made to the decor, but there's still so much to be done!
ReplyDeleteridiculously cool
ReplyDeleteTrish was right Jody....you balance the 'look what I've got' eg smashing house, with a funny and warm 'look what I've got' normal family life that balance each other out...so a blogpost about your beautiful home inhabited by normal people with all that comes with it is great to read and see...hope the trip is going well.
ReplyDeleteI die.
ReplyDeleteFor reals.
;)
Ohmygosh!!! You really have the cutest house ever. You make me want to redo everything in my house:) You have such a great outdoor space.
ReplyDeleteOH, DEAR. This is extravagance, with a capital E. It looks so perfect, I would be afraid to do anything in there, lest I put something out of place. And your perfect children!
ReplyDeleteFive things department: we live in an apartment; we cannot change anything in it.
Blessings and Bear hugs!

We lived in apartments in London for 15 years. First thing we said when we moved here and into this house - it was an old Fourties rental - was: "It's too big!" Close off one of the rooms said the rental agent. Now I think, I'd like just one more room for the kids. Spoiled.
DeleteEvery time I see your home I love it more and more. Oh how lucky you are
ReplyDeleteI have a crush on your house-hope that's okay. I love the fresh, contemporary design with a twist. It's bold, it's colorful and looks like a blast to live in.
ReplyDeleteHappy you shared this-a moment of fab design in my day!
xx, Heather
PS-hope the snakes don't catch you :)
I love love love your house. Please come help me design mine!!!!

Who keeps the cobwebs off the wood at your front door? And where's Teddy?
ReplyDeleteTrue. The Most Important Person in the family should be in these pics.
DeleteSo many lovely design features in every room and so much light. The green chair looks good but I'm sure it's so comfy too!
ReplyDeletehttp://missbbobochic.blogspot.co.uk/
Funnily enough no one ordered them and the LA firm stopped making them. They said after our order they were calling it a day. They are a copy of a early Sixties one. Then a white one turned up in Roger's office in Mad Men (against a huge dot wall) and another firm started making them for five times the price! it is comfy, you feel like the Jetsons in it!)
DeleteI. Love. Your. House.
ReplyDeleteI do like the one I'm living in too, although it's only a rental. It's a real New England colonial with lots of wood and white paint. I'm looking forward to finding a real "home" one day that we can model as our own, although I'm sure it won't be as nice as yours!
Funnily enough I was thinking the other day i would like my next house to be old. We rented this one for five years before we bought it, it was just a plain old brady Bunch house with a very brown kitchen
DeleteSo much great usage of light, not something I have to contend with sadly. Perhaps a future move and build in Napa will recompence.

ReplyDeleteLove your house but I'm not sure how much longer I could cope with the steps. Who knows?
ReplyDeleteFive things:-
1. The peace and quiet.
2. The privacy of the garden. I could run starkers around it with no observers. Only do it when there is an r in the month.
3. The Aga.
4.The space.
5. The balconies.
Love Agas and especially love how they are bright new colours including pastels

ReplyDeleteYour home is absolutely gorgeous! I love how you have it decorated. You have done such a great job and it looks so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAhhhhh Your house is stunning and SO cool!!!! love everything about it!!!
ReplyDeleteJody, This is the ultimate California house! First of all, your curb appeal..wow! I love the landscaping and the green! I would be sitting in that very cool corner chair all the time if I had that and reading. I also love your folding doors that make it indoor/outdoor living. Your bed is my favorite. Where did you ever get that? I can definitely see the New Zealand influence and I love it. Must be a fun to live there Jody!

The bed is made by the same people as the rattan chairs downstairs, Kenneth Cobonpue, made in malaysia I think.
DeleteLove his stuff, would look great in your house too Kim!
http://www.kennethcobonpue.com/
Folding doors are by Loewen but similar at Nano I think
The chair we got in LA and think that company stopped making them because no order but someone else started making them at twice the price after the white one featured in Mad Men, will get the company for you!
Fun and easy to clean house
Love your home! And thanks for using Loewen! Any interest in sharing these photos? I'm pretty sure some of them could be used in Loewen's marketing materials. If you're interested, drop us a line at media@loewen.com
ReplyDeleteJon
As an retired Loewen Manager your house is stunning which we had your views here in the UK
ReplyDeleteNature Love, thanks for popping by - and what a coincidence. Our architect, Wencke actually belongs to a family in Norway, the equivalent of Loewen and she recommended them.
