Santiago de Compostela!

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 2014

I did it! I got to Santiago!  825 km from where we started in St Jean in France. Walking every day for 27 days. Many 10-hour days. Relieved, ecstatic, so tired.

Looks like I'm doing a Julia Roberts in this photo, but its just the underarm shadow, promise.

Funnily enough the cathedral was covered by scaffolding and trompe l'oeil.

The Compestela Certificate for completing the Camino.

Inside the Cathedral.

At the beginning in St. Jean in France 27 days ago. So young, so fresh!

What did I learn from this seemingly endless walk that ended at 3pm today? Tomorrow if you're around I can tell you.

Thanks for coming along with me and for your funny, lovely, encouraging comments. They meant the world to me.

    1. You will have to start planning for yours, well when the kids are older . Although i did see one German woman with her older daughter and 10 year old son who had been walking for five months, but that seemed a bit extreme!
  2. Congratulations. A wonderful achievement.

  5. WoW !!! this was so cool; I have to do this one day and you have been such an inspiration especially dealing with the loss of an old dear friend during a most trying stretch of the journey. I'll look forward to hearing your thoughts tomorrow but also please do a another post upon returning home after you've had more time to reflect. Congratulations Jody and thank you for sharing....now get a hot bath, a stiff drink, and good night's rest in posh accommodations; you've earned it!

  16. Hello Jody,

We cannot imagine the feeling of elation that you must be experiencing at the end of this huge personal challenge. You did it.....and more than survived. Many, many congratulations.

We are so sorry that your husband had to withdraw because of his injuries. You have both been an inspiration to others who have followed you virtually in your footsteps!

    1. Yes sadly although Kevin did 17 days he does not get the Compostela Certificate but those who do the last 100 km did get it. Seems sad, but he will return when tallulah is 18 to finish it - or that is the plan.

    1. Wanted to hear more about your experiences walking too Gina, thanks for all your comments. Actually you tipped us off to stay at parador in Santiago, but we had to cancel it in the end as we thought we might have to leave early. We went for a mammoth gin and tonic and tapas though
