Compostela- Field of Stars

Today I was walking the village of Cacabelos when I heard. The signs said 150 km to the cathedral of Compostela, Field of Stars. I checked my phone messages. Sit down, wrote one of my oldest Kiwi friends.

Our wonderful friend Louise died this morning of a brain aneurysm. Our wonderful, gorgeous, charismatic with the wicked sense of humour Louise is gone.

Age 51, Lawyer, mother of beautiful daughters. And way back when - Centre position for our varsity netball team The Growlers. Louise, you gave us names with a star at the end. Lou-Star, Jodes- Star. And after the game you would tell us how great we were. No one was more fiercely loyal than you, Lou.

We lost every game and even when we were relegated to play 13 year olds we still lost. Laugh.

You invented your own hilarious language Lou and we all joined in.

Past tense, no, no that can't be right, how can that be right Lou? How on earth can that be right? Sad, sad, so sad.

Lou-Star, shine bright babe, so I can find you at the end of the Camino. I'll have a funny story to tell you, promise.

  14. A lovely tribute to your friend who was obviously extra special.

The older I get the less I understand about such seemingly capricious deaths, but I am sure that she lives on through your love and those of many, many others.
