Me and Teddy on the back patio |
Teddy must be the busiest little creature ever and the most enthusiastic. "Going to put out the garbage? Can I come? Can I come?" Then: "Oh neat! here you are back again! Yay! Yay!" Then: "Oh look: windy day! windy day!Look how it blows hair up your bum!" As a mother with two teens and two teens-in-waiting he is so refreshing.

I'm exhausted, though. Teddy sleeps 12 hours a night and four hours a day. But as with a baby, I can't leave him. (Yes, I know everyone warned me but I didn't believe them...)
It has to be said my exhaustion might also have had something to do with the James Bond party (a school fundraiser) over the weekend.

You know how I said at my 50th birthday I might have finally grown up? I didn't drink too much or embarrass myself or others. Yeah. This weekend not so much...
I decided to wear Old Gold, an ankle-length bridesmaid dress my mother made for me 15 years ago. It was feeling a bit tight this time (too much enjoyment of life) which made me nervous, as it's prone to splitting up the back. It was a two-pair-of-Spanx night for sure.
Whilst dancing at the party I suddenly had a vision. "Let's do the Dirty Dancing lift move!" I yelled to my husband. (You know that move Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey practised in the lake for hours. Also repeated recently by Ryan Gosling in Crazy Stupid Love.)
My husband had not heard. There was the run-up, there was the leap in the air! Aaand - miss. There were legs and arms flying. And we both landed on the dancefloor.
"Don't worry" my friend reassured me "you couldn't see your two pairs of Spanx...too much. By the way your dress is split up to your butt."
Most husbands would have grabbed their wife and slunk off into the corner. Not mine. "Let's have another go" he said. The second attempt was pathetic rather than triumphant, but no falling over this time. Taking pity on us, friends spontaneously raised me up onto Kevin's shoulders...finally the lift, but no spin. Something to aim for another evening.

Any choreography in your weekend? (which seemed such a good idea at the time...)
I think you looked great! No dress up for me but we do have a 6 month old rescue pup keeping me on my toes as well. Your little Teddy is adorable! Doesn't even look real :)
ReplyDeleteI know! he looks like a toy dog, but his pooping is all too real....
DeleteThat's a hilarious story - I admire your bravery! I'm too shy at events to ever do something that much fun but I admire the fact you will :)
ReplyDeleteAnd that puppy is completely adorable - my pups are all grown up now, but I still remember them following me around the house and curling up on my while I blogged! x

Coco sends Teddy a big wagging welcome to the neighborhood. I can't believe we left before your dancing escapades on Saturday night!
ReplyDeleteTeddy says Hi Coco. See I already have become mad dog lady who speaks for her puppy!
DeleteTeddy, even if he isn't a Teddy Bear, is cute. We had a Maltese puppy/dog. She even bossed the big poodle around.
ReplyDeleteThis weekend I have to "choreograph" a funeral for the father of a friend. The "joys" of being "back on the job." I presided at her wedding; I can do her dad's funeral. Such is life in the small city.
That dog is so cute! But you my darling are so fun and you look great as usual!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh that Teddy is the cutest guy ever! What a face! I heard Maltese are great dogs.
ReplyDeleteLove your gold dress too. Looks like a fun party!
Kim:)
Your Teddy is adorable Jody! I love your gold dress too ...you look stunning as always:)
ReplyDelete~Anne
Glad to hear you haven't really grown up. :)
ReplyDeleteCute doggy.
I'm not really a doggy person but this little chap is such a sweetie, I could change my mind.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely to see that turning 50 has made you more mature and sensible ;-)
I was definitely not a dog person last week...what a difference a day and wet nose make!
DeleteI love your dancing action!
ReplyDeleteYou look exquisite in gold; and little Teddy...swoon! I love! :)
ReplyDeletehe's adorable...you need one of those little Paris Hilton-type bags to take him to Whole Foods, etc.
ReplyDeleteSadly, I am actually considering buying one of those bags - but not the LV one. I have crossed the Rubicon on dog humiliation. I've read Paris and the like just let their dogs down in stores, poop and walk away....
DeleteYour Teddy is so cute. Pups take up the time don't they?
ReplyDeleteLove the gold dress (I know the whole "dress is a bit tighter these days" feeling) and the party theme. Totally burst out laughing at the whole big dance move! AND the picture of you on the shoulders. I want to go to one of your parties. They always look so much fun or maybe its you!!!
First, the puppy is adorable!!!! Second: you are so much fun that I want to move to Oakland just so I can be around you. There. I said it. :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great fund raiser/party and you "lift" attempt is hilarious ~ way to go! :) I like the teased hair and the golds. Did you have the famous Vesper? (Yummy!)
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures and Teddy is so adorable. I'm such a fan of dogs. They add so much to family life. As you know, we have 2 at the moment (crazy I know) and one has the torn ACL with a brace, and the puppy was just spayed is walking around with a cone on her head. Geeezzz...
Ouch on the puppy! I suppose Teddy will have to face that too. The vesper I knew something was missing from my outfit!
Deletethat is so something i would do...the falling and splitting and all. i love it!! and your pup...adorable! so sweet!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous...your outfit and the puppy. What is your diet like? I am beginning to think I need to copy it to have as much energy as you!
ReplyDeleteLibby - remember I don't have a job and I nap after lunch! Dog minder is a good job for me!
DeleteThat is the cutest dog (and dress) ever !
ReplyDeleteI can fall over at parties without even trying to get a lift from the Shah! And I am seriously coming back as a puppy. Or a kitten. What a great life!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I often fall on dance floors without jumping involved! So glad you enjoyed a night filled with jumps, falls, spanx and Old Gold. They just don't get much better than that.
ReplyDeleteAnd you still look like the ultimate Bond girl!
Sounds like a fun evening and your puppy is absolutely gorgeous!

ReplyDeleteomg... i am dying here.
ReplyDeleteyou have some serious guts my friend. (even if aided by a little "liquid vice" ;))
AND... you look absolutely stunning in all of that gold!!!
Torrie _ liquid vice? - that is brilliant!
DeleteTeddy is so cute :) and the evening sounded heaps of fun!!
ReplyDeleteYour puppy is SO CUTE! Oh my goodness, it makes me want to get a dog right now!

Your puppy is so cute, Jody! Ah, the Dirty Dancing lift move, we danced on the Time of my Life at our wedding, but no lift move. I know, the best part, but didn't have the courage to do it. xo
ReplyDeleteAda
Beautiful puppy, looks like you had a great night my friend.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your day
Always Wendy
Where to start? Teddy, your great guns - spill the beans on the tricep definition!
ReplyDeleteUsed to be yoga, now fridge and wine bottle opening...
DeleteYou just looked gorgeous and as for Teddy wow how adorable it will be like having a new baby in the house but so worth it.
ReplyDeletehow fun!! good for you...looks like a blast for everyone! happy birthday too...love your puppy!!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a great party, if I tried to get my husband to do that lift with me it would be more than just a dress wrecked - his back would never get over it!!
ReplyDeletewhat a fun party! =) and such an adorable dog!

I choked when I read the part that mentioned you are 50. 50??! Really?! You certainly do NOT look your age.
ReplyDeleteI love the photos of your family (that includes the little "baby").
Such fun and I giggled the whole ride.
