Justification Hotline? It's Me, Jody

"Ms Jones, put me through to Justification Hotline, shopping desk, please."
"Certainly Ms Brettkelly. Putting you through now."
"This is Justification Hotline, the shopping desk. Please present your argument."
"Hi, it's Jody here. I've just seen a silk top from my favourite store down the road. It's really pricey. But here's the thing: it may be that final piece of the puzzle that completes my wardrobe."

The Suno top visiting our backyard

Friday night birthday drinks at my friend Sally's house. Miamimice sleeve roll up.
Sat morning soccer and the CSL House Tour
Sat night dinner at  Metro in Lafayette with mullet tuck. (Wish those trousers weren't so crinkly). Top was not even stanky after all this thrashing!

"...And not only that, it checks a lot of boxes when it comes to these Spring Trends I keep reading about: floral with stripes, shot of pink, boxy."
"Ms Brettkelly, just consulting your file: you've told us before that you don't suit boxy and you find silk too silky."
"Yes, but for some reason, it floats enough to seem non-boxy. And this time I don't mind the silkiness. Plus it's easy to dress up and dress down."
"Well, it sounds like a keeper. I'm putting my stamp on this one. Enjoy. And Ms Brettkelly? A friendly reminder... you've made two calls too many this quarter - I don't expect to hear from you until next quarter."

Silence on the other end. The caller may have been already heading back to the store...

(Have you had occasion to reach for the phone lately? Are you still searching for the final piece of the puzzle?)

As you know, I'm behaving myself in the clothing arena. It's the book buying that will soon have me speed dialing the hotline!

  8. You look fab in the top - no guilt allowed.
Slightly less fabulously, I bought a lilac jersey top in Banana Republic the other day, because it just simply leaped out at me and said "I'm yours".

  12. Well, you already know that haute couture is not Bear's forte. I mean, when all you wear all day and night is one fur coat, there isn't a lot you can do. If I tried to accessorize, all the other Bears would laugh me out of the bush.

The new Sumo top does look good. But a bit small for a Sumo wrestler.

    Blessings and Bear hugs!

  15. Gorgeous top....all 3 outifts looked smashing. Now that I have discovered the gorgeous Patrick Grant through watching The Great British Sewing Bee on TV I am convinced we should all learn to sew...knock something like that up in minutes..no?
    Oh well ... a girl can dream.....hello Patrick...sigh......

    1. Yes, this top is just a box! would be simple to make! Funnily enough, my mother sewed all our childhood to pay for extras like music lessons etc. and actively discouraged us from learning - she would do my sewing homework if I cooked the dinner - as she reckoned it would be a useless talent in years to come. Consequently I do know how to cook , though I opt these days for assemblage but am useless at even sewing on a button

  16. I LOVE it. Gorgeous top, and I think it's perfect and will go with everything, as you've just discovered this past weekend. I've made a few calls to the hotline lately too.... each time thinking it will be the last. Obviously I'm not strong on resolve. xx

You are so right though this one does tick all the boxes for trends etc. You crack me up. The Miami Vice sleeves is a new one! Gorgeous in all three looks!

  21. That is an AWESOMELY versatile top! I recently bought an uber versatile top at TK Maxx for £7 (!!!) and I am extremely proud of that purchase. No justification needed there, I reckon you've already got your money's worth so every time you wear it in the future is now a bonus. There. Do I get a job on that phone line?! ;)

  22. Hilarious! Send me the number for the justification hotline straight away! I'll soon be banned I'm sure!

    2. Yes, though I wish we had allowed more time to explore that area. We did a trip to Cape Reinga, the Te Paki sand dunes and even explored an amazing glow worm cave (Waipu Caves). It would've been nice to have a few extra days there just to be lazy and enjoy the view.

And now I've got it out of the darker recesses of my wardrobe its going to stay out.

  35. Dear Jody

You are obviously too young to know all the principles of justification. Principle #23 states that anything silk NEVER needs to be justified because its eco and aesthetic credits override any other considerations.

When you’ve lived as long as I have you will you will know these things.

    Auntie Ann
PS just had made 2 silk camis and one silk camisole. The name of my seamstress is Tania and she usually makes camis and knickers from merino wool - I have persuaded her to branch out into silk.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Auntie Ann: Merino wool? Wouldn't that be scratchy and itchy? Glad you persuaded her to do the silk.
I bow, as I usually do, to the wisdom of the elder BK wahines.

      Delete
    2. From Ann: That's Tanja, aka Mama Merino.
From me: I'm told merino is not scratchy but soft. Of course Icebreaker make knickers from it too...

      Delete
    3. I can attest to the non-itchiness of Icebreaker underthings!

      Delete
    4. I've never worn their undies, but yes some of my Icebreaker shirts are too itchy as well - Im going to put it in their suggestions box. BTW, I came across one tramper-hiker who said he'd worn icebreaker stuff (including underwear)f or two weeks straight and it didn't smell (that much...)

      Delete
    5. I can also attest to the (relative) non-smelliness of wool. Suffice it to say that I do a lot of winter camping ;)

  40. Looking utterly gorgeous, as usual.
No need to pick up the phone here - my wardrobe is in a sad state at the moment. Still four pounds of baby flab to get rid of, my middle name is NothingToWear, and my formerly ample bosom has only just shrunk back to a handleable cupsize. As long as I am still in transformation, I won't spend money on anything but a couple of new knickers and maybe a T-shirt. Did I mention it was sad?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. See no evidence of said flab in photos on your blog and anyway - only four pounds? Just think what Kim K will have to face after she gives birth...
