Drat that September Issue |
I'm a summer person - all that autumnal layering makes me sweat and black drains the colour from my face. My friend Rachel is the opposite. She loves it when the days turn chilly and the crispy leaves start their twisty turny drop. "Did you get the September Issue?" she asked when we met up this week at Bix, an old timey supper club in San Fran "All those boots and tights!"
Bix |
This is how bizarre the weather is in San Francisco. We showed up to Bix wearing what we both love: me in white and Rachel in black. It was tropical on the drive in and Nordic in the streets. As Mark Twain (the first real blogger, he wrote incessantly about everything) said:"The coldest winter I ever spent was the summer in San Francisco"
Rachel and Me |
My skirt is from Victoria's Secret, studded and stretch. I'm a virgin VS-er. Their bras definitely have all the pulleys, levers and paddings you could ever need - they are awesomeness - but their clothing is modeled in a back-arching lip-pouting way that's a bit off-putting. (Plus they use the word "panties" Ugh! That word is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me.)
Anyway, I divert...Which are you - eternally Summer-struck or ready for Fall? Keeping the white trou in constant rotation or hunting down the black biker boots with all the bells and buckles?
I am ready for Autumn ... seeing as Summer passed us by this year!! How cute is Teddy looking out the window:) Love your outfit.

I think I'm an Autumn/Winter. I'm a grunge momma at heart. I find the summer very hard to work and I love to cover up in big jumpers - I feel the cold enormously so this summer has been dreadful for me. However, I can't stand being hot either. Is this what we call whingeing a bit?
ReplyDeleteoh I am definitely a fall/winter girl - I have always loved black clothes, chunky sweaters, scarves, etc and I'm a boots girl. If I could wear them all the time, I would!
ReplyDeleteThat said, I do like white but I normally wear white with black.
I usually devour a magazine the second I get it but Vogue's 916 pages is a bit too much for one sitting! I'm still working on it. :)
ReplyDeleteI think I'm a little more autumnal (is that a word?). This year I'm not looking forward to it as much because UGH maternity clothes. At least they're comfy.
I love both of your outfits, you made a very chic pair. And your skirt looks gorgeous, I would never have guessed it is VS, it looks very classy.
ReplyDeleteHa! I hate panties too (sounds very dodgy).
ReplyDeleteJody, Just got my issue, but I can barely hold it up at night when I have the time to read! It weighs about 6 pounds! I am a sweater and boots and coat person. In fact my family teases me because I have to purge. I have 2 closets of coats! I love covering up! You of course, look divine in white and all that Summery stuff!
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend!
Kim
p.s. Going to SF this weekend and Mark Twain was so right! I plan on bringing my North Face parka and scarves!
Just had this question at mine and as you know I'm a tights and jumper girl...looking forward to wearing my R Clerg boots!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely an Autumn/Winter person. Boots, scarves, chunky jumpers, crackling fires, hot chocolate ... what's not to love? Maybe if I lived somewhere that actually had a decent summer, I'd feel differently:)
ReplyDeleteAlways summer for me, floaty tops and feeling warm all the time, no soggy, squelchy feet if I go out in strappy sandals but there are occasional times when only my flat, comfy, furry boots will do!
ReplyDeleteI think I'm an autumn, but by this I mean autumn colours suit me.
ReplyDeleteThe word panties has the whiff of immorality, flimsiness, and seventies porn, whilst the word knickers smacks of being heavily elasticated, sturdy and not likely to fall down during a robust game of hockey.
I'm a knickers type of gal.
Sx
I'm so ready for fall! And I miss cold SF summers...summers here are 100+.
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely a Fall Gal! My favorite season and love the clothes!!! Honestly I think summer is a bit overrated!
ReplyDeleteLove Di ♥
I never dress right for any season, but I like summer shoes, but like fall clothes. Here in NC, I wear summer shoes with my jeans a lot because it is so darn hot til November.
ReplyDeleteOh look at you gorgeous suntanned blonde - that's my look in my next life.
ReplyDeleteI flipping hate winter by November I just live in Uggs, sweats, cardis and parkas.
You have Uggs Tabitha!?! Never would have thought it! But I am glad ... makes me feel better about mine.
DeleteI found the September issue very uninspiring but it could just be me being cranky. I am all for wearing my cashmere sweaters but it is boiling here and fall seems a long way off. I'm in Canada too but nevermind!
ReplyDeleteI also hate the word panties and when people use that word it makes my skin crawl.
But YOU look beautiful in your whites with your tan, love it.
Definitely ready for fall here... the 3 weeks (OK, we had 6 this year) of summer have come to an end.
ReplyDeleteLove your outfits - yours and Rachel's!
I love the change in seasons (especially for fashion!). I am a little bummed not to get to partake in fall fashion this year (due to the increasing midsection!), but I will enjoy watching them on others!
ReplyDeleteI would be a Fall (sorry Autumn) person if we had more than a week of it in Chicago. We get a sweltering hot summer (make-up melting is never a good look) then about a week where you can wear jackets and great boots, then we're plunged into sub zero for months. Nothing other than duvet-like parkas will work so fashion pretty much goes out the window. Sigh!
ReplyDeleteWhite eyebrows?
ReplyDeleteWell, what do you know, for the first time ever, I'm aligning with the fashionistas.
Mind you, mine are natural.
As is the white beard.
Does Vogue mention anything about this season's preferred colour of beards?
As far as the word "panties" is concerned, I always preferred "knickers"
I think I'd be more of the buckle, black boot.. biker look (love your verbiage here) We have so much rain, cold, snowy, grey days in Seattle that whites would be tough to wear on the regular basis. That said.. the classic white blouse with jeans, wool slacks, or skirt is a must have. Most of my fall clothes are grey, camel, chocolate, or black.. boring but seems to fit around here.
ReplyDeleteI haven't bought clothes from VS.. I'll have to check out the skirt!
Have a fun weekend Jody!
(I thought I already responded to this from my phone but I don't think it went through..)

I love both, and everything in between and have too much for every season. Sigh. That's my problem. However, think I tend toward cozy things since I'm cold more often than not.
ReplyDeleteBut I'm not yet ready to give up the white trou for the year. And still not ready to give up on the hunt for the holy grail pair of them.
Both you and your friend look so polished! I wonder if VS has arrived on the English shore yet. I've heard rave reviews from friends about their bras.
ReplyDeleteI think I'm more of a Spring person. I feel most comfortable when I've got a jacket on. When I think of summer, I think of my trips back to Borneo. I wilt within 5 seconds of stepping out of the plane.
You both look great. I'm usually in black, come rain or shine.I prefer winter clothing because it allows me to start wearing a hat again.
ReplyDeleteI seem to love whatever I'm wearing at the time, somehow. I'm looking forward to the jumpers and jackets of Autumn as a change from all the crinkled linen of summer!
ReplyDeleteI adore fall, but it will still feel like deep summer here on the coast until early October. Unless of course, global warming decides to give us a year off. I live for the summer but come the end of August, the thought of pulling on a bathing suit again seems dreadful and I start craving Coq au Vin and Beef Bourguignon and just about every other comfort food there is.
ReplyDeleteI feel conflicted, though I love the balmy nights of summer I also adore all things boots and outerwear. If only there was a way to combine the two.

I am totally a summer person in fact I did a post on it the other day. I dread the dark clothes that are winter plus my biggest dread tights. Some of my friends cannot wait for winter clothes to arrive but you will find me looking at the summer sales rail just to have my last contact with summer. Give me colour or white any day of the week .
ReplyDeleteBoth of you look beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI love the fall come the end of summer and I love Spring come the end of winter.
ReplyDeleteI love the fall... the colors, crisp air and pretty sweaters. Of course, after a long snowy winter, I'm so ready for flip flops and the beach! :)
ReplyDeleteA DIL has given me a gorgeous Hermes scarf with vivid orange colours so I hope it will enliven my black jacket when I go up to town so I don't want a heat wave.
ReplyDeleteI prefer the extremes of summer and winter. I know where I am with sandals or boots, thin cardi or big coat. No good at the in-between stage.
ReplyDeletei am sooooo ready for fall!
ReplyDeleteI'm such a summer girl it's crazy. I could live on the beach each and every day. But there is something nice about fall in the city. Since I have no choice I guess I'll get used to the idea... :) xoxo
ReplyDeleteYou look fabulous in your new VS skirt! Kudos to wearing their looks well. xo style, she wrote

I'd like to say I'm ready for fall... I love that transition from hot weather to cooler nights and breeze
ReplyDelete100% eternally summer struck. As I think you saw on my post. Sigh. So sad to see it go.
ReplyDeleteChilly in Ca?...you have been there too long it seems.
ReplyDeleteWell I kind of love both summer and fall clothes but living in Canada there's another season that you may not be familiar with...winter:) It's all about scarves, hats and heavy coats and that's the season I truly loathe.
ReplyDeleteI'm ready for Fall!
ReplyDeleteReady for fall. Also a huge fan of Bix. I haven't been there in years, but in my single days it was a favorite after work spot for drinks.
ReplyDeleteWhich September issue did you get? US? UK? French? It's Vogue's fashion night out tonight in London. You should come next year!
ReplyDeletei'm such a sucker for whatever season we're in....we really don't have seasons down here in southern california so any notion of a dark sky or rain drop, and i'm hightailing it into my closet for my wellies and trenchcoat....
ReplyDeletei'll have a permanent pucker on my face today for having read the word "panties."
blech.....
its been always summer here in malaysia.its pretty sad that i dont get to experience the cold weather and got to wear all those trench coat or heavy clothing.summer all year.maybe someday i need to spent my fall in the States.lol
