Topshop

Good on the Brits! (actually I'm a passport-carrying one too, so slap on the back for me) In an icecream to eskimos move, Topshop is selling their clobber in New York and LA. The store seemed pretty successful in London when we left 12 years ago but I always felt a little overwhelmed by the Oxford Circus one. Kevin just got me this t-shirt from Topshop NY - $70!!! What's happened to the blimin' prices? I remember it as being superduper cheap.

But is it worth $70?...it's secrets will come out in the wash

In more To'sho news, here's my sister blister Pietra teaching film students in India, wearing her TopShop top. Love how her students have given her a cake that reads "Thankyou Dear Pietra."

Here's another one of Pietra wearing To'sho at Ohope Beach, NZ

Here's my sister Sharon wearing her sssparkly pink vinyl ssskirt in Auckland. Hi Shazza! Lookin' good in the neighborhood!

Shazza in her vinyl TopShop skirt (just realised that's Dad on the left)

I usually veer well away from nicking something from a 13-year-old, but this plaid shirt Tallulah bought in NY will not be mutton dressed as lamb on me, promise.

I asked a few bloggy friends over the pond to send me snaps of their Topshop clobber too.

Natalie is a personal stylist from Buckinghamshire, UK. "I bought this dress on a whim as was topping up an online order for free delivery! I think I paid around £45 for the dress full price which wasn't bad at all. It's so easy to wear for the day with flats but also dressed up with heels and is so comfortable. "

Trea is mum of two, lives in Northern Ireland, currently on maternity leave, works as a Civil Engineer and has an online boutique selling statement jewelry. "I bought the skirt last summer and have had quite good wear out of it. It works as a more casual skirt with flats, but also looks great with a glam black top and heels for a night out. The quality is great, it's very stretchy buy also has that 'sucky in' feeling that you get from spanx and who doesn't love that!"

Hollie lives in Stopsley, Luton. She used to work as a hairdresser at Toni and Guy but left to work at the airport, met hubby, had kids and then left there. Now a Brand Ambassador for a pushchair company called phil&teds and Mountain Buggy."White jeans (especially these waist-holding Joni) are a new fave of mine, I love a monochrome look. My Topshop biker jacket is a few years old now but perhaps has had the most use out of anything in my wardrobe- dressed with the white jeans it can make any tee look cool."

Hollie of  MummyWifeandChaos

"A printed jumpsuit like my banana print one can be such an effortless and easy look without having to try hard, perfect for the beach! Mine sold out some time ago but I love this latest offering!"

Hollie of Mummy, Wife and Chaos

"A bright top like my Topshop stripe one to make my outfit stand out with cut-off denim and not look so plain jane. Plus at £7 in the sale it's a steal."

Hollie again

Jane, who lives in Worcestershire: "I'm absolutely in love with camis; have a couple of Topshop ones as they're a great length, not too long but long enough to tuck in if you want. Plus they don't crease too, which is always a bonus especially from an ironing point of view!! This one is in one of my favourite colours; I absolutely adore this shade of red."Similar here in blue

Jane of MidLifeFashion

Avril who lives in Northern Ireland, picked up her Topshop kimono from Depop - a new online ebay style app you can get on your phone."I bought it from a girl whose other items included denim hot pants, white patent leather Doc Martins and a neon yellow jersey tube mini skirt. So I'm guessing I'm not going to be a regular customer of hers :)

"Love the print, the shape and how light it is...as we're actually having a summer of sorts here. But the best bit? It's a size 8 (US 4)...so I can delude myself with every wear!

"Always love striking Topshop gold - it's a shop I adore looking round but it gets top marks in the 'Risk of Mutton' stakes so you have to be so careful what you buy. The jewelry is really cute though so when in doubt, I buy a necklace..."

Avril of SchoolGateStyle

Helen, below, says: "If you asked me 3 years ago if I ever entered Topshop to purchase anything at all I would have scoffed. I was such a clothes snob before I started following blogs. I truly believe, now, that my clothing choices made me look much older ( I am 45. ) I always pop into Topshop now, and love their tops in particular along with their 'Baxter' jeans. Here I am sporting some of my summer purchases. I know they are pretty conservative but that is just me :0) Everything seems to wash and wear well but I am aware that I have to be slightly selective, with what I buy, as arse-skimming shorts don't really suit and I shriek and run at the sight of a neon crop top!

  1. Life is so unfair. Please tell me Jane and her arms are twenty. While my ass is quickly disintegrating my batwing are growing like a weed. Anyway, isn't Top Shop Kate Moss? Have never been in, seen one. Your friends look amaze balls...yes I am sitting in bath with wine itching my poison ivy and am a bit delirious. Have fun this week end!

  2. Great photos. You do run with a glamour pack! We have Top Shops in Canada now but I have yet to go in. Perhaps I should give it a go.

  3. $70 for a t-shirt?! Yikes!
Also, please tell me how to pronounce your sister's name, as I'm not sure if my head is saying it right. xx

  4. I must be the only person I know who has never found anything in top shop and Zara... There's always something not quite right. They've opened in Australia too, so clearly they're aiming to rule the world!

    1. I do have an aversion to shops with piles and piles of crumpled clothes these days and that's always how I find big stores generally so I walk in and then walk out. Having said that i got that eyelet dress from Zara and have worn it more than anything

    2. You and me both, Heidi. I haven't either, and I am always hopeful.

  5. Well till I read jen's post above, had no idea we had one in Canada, which tells you I am not paying enough attention to fashion these days! Ah the mutton dressed as lamb - I am trying to be very careful about that these days - is a great horror of mine!

  6. It's years since I've visited Top Shop - look what I've been missing! Fantastic outfits. I think I would like to be Hollie not just borrow her clothes- I need to pose like that for photos, one leg up against the wall. She looks fab, as do all your bloggy friends.

    1. Yes! That's what I was thinking. I asked the hubstar to get me a couple of things and truthfully I was bit miffed he only came back with one piece and then I saw the price.
He was also stressed because he had the three kids whining at him

    1. I think they do prints so well, I love them too. I just wish they would do those floral skater skirts in a longer style and also the short tops which are too cut-away for me to wear

  9. Such lovely outfits, I haven't been in Top Shop (for myself) since my early 20's, have they got really pricey?? I do like the sound of a skirt doing that sucky in spanx thing though!

  12. Love this post. I had no idea TopShop had so many cute things. I have just been getting familiar with it at Nordstrom, where they expanded the Top Shop area. It's a huge, store within a store here down at the Valley Fair location.

You and your sisters all have great style! Going to pop over and check out these ladies' blogs.xx

  14. Yikes didn't realise you had to pay $70 either!! A plain tshirt here is about £18 or does that equate about the same? (Goes off to Google! ) Thanks for the lovely comments, lol at the pose, I often think I look stupid which is why I'm laughing!

    1. Not sure what the exchange rate is now, but I'm sure its pretty pricey. usually i don't mind paying extra for t-shirt as, like good jeans you wear them so much in California and you may as well have them for a couple of years...still hope new lavender swims well

  15. TopShop is all over here (seriously, almost every metro stop), and with good reason, there are so many great finds! That being said, I don't like the rise in prices, I just don't think the quality is there....

  16. Top Shop is opening up here in Perth in a couple of months.

  17. Don't know the last time I went into Topshop. Must have been when I was around 20 I suppose. Any stuff I had from there is long gone! Mind you, if they're charging $70 for a tee-shirt, I'm not likely to be tempted to window-shop let alone part with good money!

  18. Gotta' admit ... Topshop scares me! It's all so bright and young and perky - makes me feel ooooold!!!

  19. I always wander round TopShop Oxford Circus fantasizing that I might get spotted as a model...which at the age of 40 and 5 foot 4 is pretty unlikely, but a girl can dream..

I have a few things from there but when it really came into its own was maternity wear - they are about the only shop to do non-frumpy maternity jeans.

I think they probably whacked the prices up for America - or maybe they only ship out the super-expensive stuff.
