Scenes from the Weekend

Everyone loves a red haired kid with braces, a puppy and his bruvver...right? Here you go, Jackson,Teddy and Cy two years ago. Happy Birthday Tedmeister, you've been a good old dog.

Jackson, Teddy and Cy two years ago

People say Jackson is never on my blog. Fact is he's rarely around, lately he's stopped even pretending he lives here; just collects his clothes and wanders back to his friends house to eat/sleep/watch tv. Oh, he'll text us around 11pm. If I could live there too I would, they have really nice fresh fish dinners. If Jackson is ever famous I imagine his biography will refer to us (in passing) as his "biological parents".

A very long long weekend friends and I was at my computer every minute, either wailing at the screen or eating reviving toast with lashings of buttah. Been procrastinating over an article and finally I wrote it. It was not even a difficult piece, but it was paaainful to write.  As Dorothy Parker would say, I hate writing, I love having written.

This was the dress I was wearing in my mind to the Valentines party we went to. The party had a bartender from Wood Tavern. He bought all the mixes in plain bottles with typed labels and it made everything look fresh. Apparently bartenders call women who drink slowly "book clubbers."

Giambattista Valli, Only $8208...and you get the back too!

This is what I actually wore,  nothing spesh. I had two too many sips too many of the lovely lemony cocktails and felt bit delicate next day. Those jolly last sips... they're always the mulleting ones. Good news was - everyone there was very entertained by my anecdotes. Or they thought I was a dreadful bore, you choose.

Wore this three nights in a row, Just realised I am a button person
Everyone's in the kitchen at pardees

Our friend Michael of Mike'n'Kenny at drinks party. Hobnobbing with redheads around Valentines is good luck

The juxtaposition between these photos (a college entrance person told us college essays always contain the words juxtaposition and myriad. "Tell your kids it's better to write 'a lot' " she said. ) of what I would like to look like and what I actually looked like reminded me of someone who showed me their outfit photo once and said: "Oh, but actually I looked a lot better than this photo shows. I just looked just amazing!" Can you imagine being that confident?

Also wore me sparkly Pradas.  Got them half price, have been good to me, comfy.

Weary of my Teddy witterings? Best skip this par. Teddy's water therapy is over but now we've had to hire a dog whisperer to re-train him. I have also considered calling this dog psychic who apparently tells your dog stuff over the phone. And then tells you what your dog said. Apparently quite a few of the dogs say: "Could you get some more of those liver treats." Funny that. Anyway some women buy Laboutins, I have this dog.

Excited about Boy George comeback, I always loved him and he owes me a proper concert after being totally out of it one night in London. All is forgiven Georgy Boy, you can contact me through my blog or facebook.

Boy George this week

Me and Kevin at the 2006 school auction, the two faces of Boy George. I don't suit red hair.

Could someone please please open up a good Indian restaurant in the Bay Area? I miss the magnificent Khans in Bayswater even though they were rude and I miss M&S Indian heater uppers.

  1. You are so funny! You know I'm familiar with having one too many sips of a lemony cocktail and I don't regret it. It was a holiday! What does mulleting mean?!

    1. Means drunk, though I think I may be the only person who uses the expression and to my knowledge its never taken off. Image of a mullet fish over head?

    3. Cool, good to hear, I'd thought I'd dreamt that word.

  2. That pink dress is fab but on us pale blondes I've found it makes us look like the walking dead. Unless a tan, which you probably have.

  3. Looks like you had a lovely party and your outfit is beauiful!

So that's how Boy Georgie is dealing with baldness... tattoos AND combover. LOL

    1. Guess his tilted hat had hidden that for so many years. I do love that Hawaiian looking jacket of his, looks like one of those MuiMUi ones

  4. I never tire of people talking about their dogs or the parties they go to. That picture of him sacked out by the expensive Prada chew toy is the best. (At half price, a good deal for the shoe, but still pricey for a dog treat.) Must agree that Boy George is looking good these days! If you'd worn that Pink Valli to the party, all the other women would have been so jealous - so really kinder of you not to. Does "mulleting" mean that you drank so much you considered getting a mullet haircut? Inquiring minds want to know!

    1. Actually now I think of it Beryl, Mulleted could be ambidextrous word, drank too much so that you're willing to shave the sides of your hair!

  5. OMG I love Khans!
Congrats on finishing your article. Writing is hard - I had a deadline for a conference paper this week and even though it was a short paper, I really struggled.
Love the silver Pradas. Think I need to read back to find out why your dog is having water therapy ( and what that actually is!?)
    How old is Jackson?

    1. Sorry Ruth, maybe this is why it takes me so long to write - leave out the salient points! Teddy had both his knees operated on two months ago and jackson is 14. (I'm pretty sure he hasn't had a b-day without telling us...)

  6. HA! My younger brother has become exactly the same! Although a good chunk of the time his bunch of friends are in my parents pool! Teenagers eh. Also those shoes are to die for! Also so true, the kitchen is the party! Looks like your Valintines was so great! xE

  7. That pink dress is gorgeous....shame about the price, am surprised it does come with the back on it! Haha...you look amazing as Boy George, love him! He's hoot as a person as well. I hope you get to go see him this time :) x

  8. Come to Singapore --- we have delicious Indian food here!

That being said, I hate when I feel all polished and chic and then see a photo of myself and realize my hair was one big frizz ball and my clothes were wrinkled.... I need to start setting the bar lower for photos, that or spending more time primping (because I have so much time these days...)

    1. Alexis, i do have amazing memories of going into a really old restaurant in Singapore which beautifully tiled taps outside where you would wash your hands - no utensils. And some polo club

  9. Ah yes, mulleted! Though we tend to say 'mullered'.
Our son is spending more time of late at his girlfriend's house. They are Malaysian so he is fed a myriad (see what I did there?) of fish and seafood dinners. He never ate prawns when I served them.
I have an article to write this morning, which is why I'm over here...

    1. OOh mullered sounds like the posh version of mulleted. yes, Trish I do find I do my blog more when have deadlines! (am loving your new column by the way!)

  11. Boy George is making a comeback? Love him. Sounds like you had an eventful few days. Of all the things my kids did in their college prep high school, writing, writing, writing, is what has helped them the most in college...calculus, Spanish, physics...not so much.

  12. too funny! Teddy is the long-lost brother of my son Forrest, who uses us as a flop house, laundry service and once in awhile, affection!

Yay for Boy George. What I remember of the 80s I remember with fondness...

  13. What has Boy George done to his head? Why would someone put a tat right on their temple? Love your imaginary dress. You already have the Prada heels for it, those look like magic shoes. Oh, Teddy, what a personality!

    1. Re Goerge B - I know! Those tatts are really dodgy. I do like his eyelashes though, he could always put on the falsies straight sober or no.

  15. Glad you had a delightful weekend, albeit you lost a son. He'll be back when he is short of cash.

I never cease to be amazed by the variety of your clothing. Haute couture, indeed.

Say, what ever happened to that striped suit?

    Blessings and Bear hugs!

    1. Hi there, just about to send to my sister blister in Auckland actually. She is radio journo and newsreader and she will be able to wear suit white reading her scoops. Nice change from her bicycle shorts - oops not sure i was supposed to say she reads the news in her bike shorts.

      Delete
    2. I was very careful not to mention that the striped pants
and jacket are an almost exact copy of a Victorian Bicycling Ensemble - and could be worn as such for any Victorian Costume opportunity. So your sister could be trading modern bicycle shorts for vintage bicycle shorts.

    3. Beryl, my sister blister Shazza would be totally chuffed to think she was wearing Victorian Cycling Ensemble, gives her newsreading much more gravitas don't you reckon?

  16. Khans now doesn't allow any alcohol which ruins the late night cheap curry and beer combo but yes I adore a easy heat em up and ironically I don't think bar India anywhere comes close. One of the things I miss when I have been away is Indian food! I think Jackson is gorgeous and would love to do a play date but you are thirteen hour flight away so perhaps not...I love boy George but then again he is of my times. I really should stop saying thigs that make age me!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Ha! Glad I'm not the only one wearing couture in my mind! But you look fabulous irl too.

  18. True that everyone gathers in the kitchen at parties and sounds like you had a fun time with all those cocktails. Love the shirt and sparkly heels. We are lucky to have M&S just a ten minute drive away and some great Indian restaurants too! Spoilt!

  19. Mmmmm...love Kahns! Go every time we're in London...didn't realize it was so famous! Missing all the great food in India, but very lucky to have a decent local nearby. You look gorg, btw...the pink dress would just be the icing on da bombe!

  20. Boy George is fab. The face tat leaves me cold but his makeup always looks better than mine. Let me know when you find a great Indian Food restaurant. The ones here in the East a Bay are nothing to write home about. I too, would love to see the photo of Tabs with Boy George.

    1. Hi there, hope the move has gone OKay and you are all settled in now. Just went to Dosa in San fran, very fun evening with friends but food incredibly average - and $25 for a main which did not include rice or any vege sides or even bread!!! The also did not have pishwari naan (the red bread) which was sad. My friend in Freemont tells me there are some ok ones out there where she lives

    2. Jody agree with Jen about the face tattoo- why? Anyhow, do you have Tava Indian food there? They opened one by here and have a burroti- an Indian burrito. All really fresh and handmade. Very good...

  21. That Teddy is fast becoming a blogging superstar. He's adorable, and I love hearing about his antics with the water torture/ therapy (torture for you, it might seem?!).
Love those sparkly pradas too. They're a bit Dorothy in a way.
Good work on the writing. xx

  22. My son (17) spends a lot of time elsewhere too. Could be because he's not getting enough meat at home. :) Poor lad. I've relented recently and put it back on the menu.

That pink dress is dreamily gorgeous. Wouldn't suit me but I it's the sort of thing I would love to have been able to wear. Don't think I've ever written 'myriad', or the other one. Wonder if my tutors were thankful...

  25. Let me know how you go with the dog whisperer/ psychic. My new dalmation puppy is destroying the joint. Turns out he has a shoe fetish! As for photos, I can confidently say I look better in person- just not that photogenic! Got my student card today, and the photo is hideous. x

  26. Gosh you are so me. I have the hardest darn time getting some posts out. So relieved when they are done. You seem prolific lately though! Too funny your comment about you have the Teddy and some girls have Loub...However the heck they are spelled. Teddy's way better than some pretentious shoes, but you know that..
Hey I'm crazy about Boy George!! So excited that he was on Fashion Police. I'd see him in a heartbeat. Jealous you dressed as him. That's my dream 80s party..to come as George myself!! Jody you rock. xx
